What is your background in art?
I am an artist living in Nova Scotia, and I have been drawing for as long as I can remember. I just never stopped.
My sketchbooks became a love letter to the sea, as I started drawing coastal scenes and “themwaves” regularly, which allowed me to maintain a connection to the ocean when I couldn’t regularly be near it.
My artwork mediums have evolved over the years. Everything from stickers, prints, cardboard sketches, canvas collections, and even driftwood have featured. In recent years I have added digital tools to my process, and have really enjoyed the opportunities that have come from that. Over the past two years I have started to paint more murals too. Stoked to continue to expand on that area of my practice.
Inspiration comes from many different places but being in nature is a must for me. If not in the ocean or drawing then I am probably in the woods somewhere. Also, listening to music of all sorts is also a mainstay in my process. Podcasts are also a go-to, but more specifically and randomly, I often rely on the audio from “The Big Lebowski” and episodes of Columbo to get those creative ideas flowing.
What’s up with the name SiSC?
Growing up, I was exposed to many different types of art and often the artists I was drawn to, especially graffiti writers would have monikers they would use. I always liked that mystery those nicknames would raise. It made me more invested in the artist after i did the research to find out the story behind the names.
I originally started releasing artwork under the name “samurai in street clothes, which is taken from a poem I had written many years ago. I eventually shortened it to SiSC as a signature and never looked back.
Ok, but whats up with the name Lobsterwolf?
Lobsterwolf was a character I used to draw in my sketchbooks when i was younger. These days I just use that word as my website address, and as an occasional brand element. Its a nostalgic nod to those early days.
